COMENIUS
2007 - Travel report
about the bilateral meeting in France
From January 31th to February 4th 2007 we
(eight pupils and three teachers of the Laubach Kolleg) spent
our time in Remiremont with pupils and teachers of the Lycée
André Malraux to work at the Comenius project with
the title „sustainable tourism“.
Our trip to France started on Wednesday 31th.
We travelled from Laubach to Gießen with the Kolleg´s
minibus. At the station we met Mrs.Müller who was already
waiting for us there. So we took the train from Gießen
over Karlsruhe and Nancy to Remiremont. Our host families
and the French teachers welcomed us warmly.
The next morning we went to school with our
exchange pupils and met the others there.
After the forester had given us some details
about the climate and the tourism in the Vosges region, we
walked through the forest while he explained the local flora
and fauna to us.
Of course we also had a guided tour through
Remiremont on which we learnt a lot of the city's history
and its famous personalities. Than we met the mayor and the
headmaster Mrs.Theulin in the city hall.
Back in school we had lunch with all the other
1600 pupils of the Lycée André Malraux in one
of the two big dining halls. At least at that point we began
to miss our little Laubach Kolleg....
In the afternoon we participated in joint
activities under the subject "How green is our school?".
We were separated in groups of two German pupils, one German
teacher and four other French pupils. At different stations
on the school grounds we were told about the ecological activities
and programmes at André Malraux's. We had to fill out
a questionnaire and they asked us instead about the ecological
progress at Laubach Kolleg.
At five o'clock we met in front of a little
radio to listen to the handball match France against Germany.
That was also the reason why Mrs.Reuther, Mrs.Müller
and Mrs.Psarros were late for the dinner that was especially
organised for us. It was really nice that the school prepared
a dinner just for us and all the pupils that had been participating
in the Comenius project. Mrs. Reuther thanked all the participants
and distributed the Laubach Kolleg wine. I can say that French
people really know how to have fun!
On Friday only we German pupils and the teachers
went by car and minibus to Strasbourg. We had an informative
guided tour through the European Parliament. It is impressing
how many symbols had been used in architecture to show the
idea of a united, independent and always growing Europe. Our
guide tried to give us an understanding of the work of the
parliamentarians because in her opinion we would be "Europe
2030".
With the metro we went to the center of the
city where we ate original Alsacian "Tarte Flambée",
visited "la Cathédrale" (for more information
about Strasbourg check http://www.strasbourg.fr ) and bought
sweets for our friends and families at home. The evening we
spent with our hosts.
Saturday was free of Comenius activities so
that we could spend the free time at our host families. Some
of us went to a science fiction film festival in Geradmer
or to an automobile museum, explored the Vosges region or
just went shopping.
After three years of working and having fun together with
pupils from Italy, France and Lithuania the Comenius project
will end in May with a last meeting of all participants in
Grünberg for a “sustainable week”. We are
really looking forward to welcoming all our European friends
in Germany.
